If you’ve visited the Sullivan County School District recently, you’ve likely noticed the steady progress of ongoing construction. Now, the wait is over—the time has come for the big reveal! We are thrilled to announce the completion of our new addition, and we invite everyone in the community to join us in celebrating this exciting milestone. The Grand Opening will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2025, with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony beginning at 8:30 AM in front of the new addition. After the ribbon is cut, guests are welcome to tour the new facilities and enjoy some light refreshments.
This expansion represents a major step forward for our district, addressing several long-standing needs while enhancing the student experience. The new addition features a significantly larger weight room, state-of-the-art workout equipment, upgraded training spaces for Griffin athletes, and dedicated areas for physical education classes. In years past, athletic conditioning was often limited to corners of the gym, crowded hallways, or open fields. With this new facility, coaches now have the tools and space necessary to safely and effectively improve athletic performance, helping to promote student wellness and reduce the risk of injury. These upgrades not only support our athletes' growth but also make our district’s facilities more competitive with neighboring schools.
The additional workout space will serve multiple purposes, including providing a much-needed indoor area for team practices during the winter months, accommodating off-season training sessions, and expanding options for physical education classes throughout the school year.
Another highlight of the new addition is the permanent concession stand, designed with a food preparation and storage area to better serve spectators during events. Just outside the concession area is a comfortable seating space equipped with a television that will live-stream the game, ensuring fans can grab a bite to eat without missing a moment of the action.

The Sullivan County School District has historically maintained a conservative fiscal outlook and financing of construction was strategically considered when rates for borrowing were at historic lows. Funding for the new facility was raised in part by the refinancing of existing bond debt and new financing utilizing general obligation notes settled in 2023. The district’s current debt service for all obligations remains less than 2.5% of total yearly expenditures.
